Crazy Customers

working in layby during the christmas seasn has given me an insight into the relationships and interactions between human beings. i'll fill you in:
customers are slightly off tap.
now, i know that there have been blogs out there that say stuff about customers and work and their authors have been fired from their jobs. im not caring. im gonna rant a little bit coz its 12.46 in the morning and i just got home from work, so therefore it is my right to complain a little.
today started off bad enough. i heard voices in my house. figuring it was the family i went out in my pjs to say hi. NOT my family. who was it? thats rite, it was the cute electrician. next, as was running late for work i tried not to hit my uncle's new car as i reversed outta my garage, i managed to put massive scratches on the side of the new car as it scraped the side wall. oh yea, great. have dad skitz at me as i have 10 min to get to work.
but the fun really started at work. a 9 hour shift in layby at xmas time. oh goodie! the warehouse has lost parcels, so many customers are missing items. there are only 2 registers so the line is never ending. customers have multiple pickups. there are constant finalisations of big and bulky items yet we have no male staff members working in layby. i swear the guys on the floor are avoiding the layby area.
and then there are the customers themselves. asking to rescan items, asking price checks and customer service (we're not an information desk) asking to wrap a bike. ringing the service bell constantly when its clear that its busy. standing aside and watching as 1 girl struggles to put a large, heavy item into a trolley with no offer to help. asking to bring out their layby (which happens to be a box that, with no exaggeration, weighs the same as 2 of me) just so the can have a look at it.
i must admit, there are some good customers. great ones even. ones that happily chat to you while they wait bc they realise that its xmas time and it busy and sometimes things go wrong. i personally love the customers who apologise for having so many parcels and feel bad that multiple trips must be made up and down the stairs. but it is quite clear to me that customers gotta learn to chill out.

** This post is dedicated to all those working in retail during this crazy season **

  • thank you for dedicating that post to ppl like myself who go through the pain of those customers at christmas... bloody cheapo customers who are like "no, no $2.50, not $2.90!" man, it's just an extra 40 cents! there's like a whole huge line, influx of customers just pay for it and leave! don't make a fuss! ARGH! haha

  • It's almost that time of the year again. I think im dreading layby at christmas even more this year, if possiable. Mainly for the fact that the casuals that come in to help rap never get anything right, point: during the no deposit toy sale this year i found out that one of the casuals was simply placing all the packages on any free shelf he could find. And by that i dont mean he fixtured anything, simply placed them there... AND HE HAD BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE PAST FOUR DAYS, there is no way i found them all...

Ow and then service desk on boxing day.. :) Yes how could you not love the holidays.
